Poker is a card game that combines skill and luck. It is played in many forms, both as cash and tournament play, and has been popular for centuries.<\/p>\n
Players have chips (representing money) which they use to place bets during the course of a hand. A player may win the pot if they have a high-ranking poker hand, or by making a bet that no other player calls during the same betting interval.<\/p>\n
Each player is dealt two cards, which are their personal “hand”. In addition to these, there are five community cards. The aim is to make the best 5 card poker “hand” using your own 2 cards and the five community cards. The players who are left in the hand then show their cards and the best hand wins.<\/p>\n
The player to the left of the dealer chip has the button, and acts first in each betting interval. He can choose to call, raise or fold his hand during this time. He cannot however raise his own bet.<\/p>\n
During the first betting interval, a player who wants to add more money to the pot than the amount that the last player raised must say so. Alternatively, he can choose to check, which means that he will not pay any more into the pot until another player says that they are raising. This is known as raising the pot.
