What is a Straight in Poker?

In the game of poker, a straight is a hand that has five cards in a row. One pair may have an ace in the low suit, a king in the high suit, or two pairs in a lower suit. When a straight is tied, the highest straight wins. For example, AKQJT beats KQJT9 down to 5432A. Straights can also be tied if the same value. A pair of threes is a pair of three cards in the same rank.

A player who wishes to remain in the game may check his cards without betting. This is called “checking”. This action may be followed by a bet raised by another player. This is known as “sandbagging,” and is permitted unless the game rules prohibit it. However, a player may raise a bet he has raised without betting. If there is more than one player, two separate games may be organized. If more than ten players are present, two games may be held simultaneously.

In poker, the player in the first-to-act position sits directly to the left of the big blind. Another player in this position sits immediately to the left of the button. The player in this position has a statistical advantage over the other players in the table. If the board shows a pair of threes, the player has a flush. Otherwise, it is a nut-suck. In addition to the top hand, the highest-ranking hand is a backdoor flush.
